elvey farm in summer 2022 - under new ownership

about

Elvey Farm is located at the end of a winding lane, nestled in the heart of the Kentish countryside, betwixt the historic villages of Pluckley and Egerton. It is a beautiful Wealden farmstead with medieval origins that is being tastefully refurbished to provide a family home complete with five letting suites and in the future some commercial business space. The group of buildings, steeped in history and natural character, is a hidden treasure waiting to be uncovered. It is a place of peace and tranquillity surrounded by open farmland and connected by a network of footpaths and bridleways including the Greensand Way.

Elvey Farm Restaurant is permanently closed. Whilst will no longer offer restaurant dining or functions i.e. elvey farm weddings or birthday parties etc, we hope that you will instead join us for a relaxing stay in the newly renovated suites!

Please contact us for our local wedding venue and restaurant recommendations, we have fantastic neighbouring businesses’ that could be the perfect choice for you.

— Nick & Sonja

Nick Leggett and Sonja Johnson purchased Elvey Farm from Simon Peek & Jeff Moody back in January 2019. The property was subject to a five-year lease agreement and an arrangement was reached with the tenants to vacate the property at the end of October 2019. The Baliva family had followed in the footsteps of Simon & Jeff in that the property had been operating as a wedding venue, boutique country hotel and restaurant. After the conclusion of a successful wedding season in summer/autumn 2019, the Balivas organised a closing down sale and returned to Italy complete with a van load of personal possessions plus the pet cats and dogs.

Nick and Sonja took possession of the property in early November 2019 and immediately started a programme of external clearance works and undertook a minor refurbishment of the Oast House. They moved to Elvey Farm in March 2020 following the sale of their home in Rochester. Since then clearance and reinstatement of both the hard and soft landscaping areas has been ongoing including new ragstone walls, brick paver and stone terracing, drainage, fencing, hedging, planting, grass and wildflower seeding.

A schedule of building works was drawn up following the completion of the first phase of Oast House refurbishment. Phase two has comprised a full renovation of the old Stables creating five high-quality suites that are now available to let.

Planning consent has been obtained from Ashford Borough Council (ABC) to convert the 18th century Barn containing the bar, restaurant, commercial kitchens and two letting suites into a private residence which will be amalgamated into the existing Farmhouse with 15th-century origins. These conversion works are due to start in early 2022. The refurbishment of the Farmhouse itself will follow in 2023.
Planning consent has also recently been obtained from ABC to convert the redundant post 2nd world war agricultural Atcost and pole barns into five office units and a cafΓ©. These conversion works are planned to start in the spring of 2022.

In keeping with the tradition of Elvey Farm, we have several resident rescue cats. Derek and Smarty can usually be found chasing mice or curled up somewhere warm.
